The Story So Far

A team of community leaders and professional staff was organized in 2007 to pursue the West Haymarket concept, specifically to further the quality development, vitality, and long term viability of West Haymarket and its environs. By putting in place sustainable private-public partnerships, the type of facilities envisioned by this team include:

The physical infrastructure needed to support the West Haymarket vision includes streets and highways, parking, pedestrian access, utilities, rail service, and district energy services. The goal is for the resulting projects to respect the existing fabric, current businesses, and historic character of Lincoln's investment in the Haymarket District and greater Downtown area.

Several studies have informed the progress of the West Haymarket Development over the past few years.  Most notable among them are the Conventions, Sports & Leisure, International (CSL) Feasibility Study for the potential development of public assembly facilities in Lincoln and the Preliminary Economic Impact Analysis for the Lincoln Arena Task Force completed by the UN-L Bureau of Business Research. More studies and documents can be found on the West Haymarket Action Team Website.
